My research investigates the biological mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of neurological and psychiatric disorders, by using a translational approach that integrates multimodal imaging modalities (PET and quantitative MRI techniques) and pharmacological experiments in patients  as well as healthy volunteers. My scientific interests stemmed from various disciplines such  neuroimaging, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroimmunology and affective neuroscience,  through doctoral and post-doctoral positions at Maastricht University, Imperial College London, King’s College’s Institute of Psychiatry and at  Imanova/Invicro PET imaging centre, where I focused  on microglial PET imaging with new generation TSPO tracers to characterise neuroinflammatory pathology in  Multiple Sclerosis and its role in modulation of neural activity and genesis of affective symptoms. In my current position as Senior Clinical Lecturer in Psychiatry at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, I am working at the development of neuroimaging paradigms for the characterisation of the neuroinflammatory responses and mitochondrial dysfunction in the living human brain. My aims  is to translate promising findings in neuroscience and neuropharmacology into discoveries that have direct clinical relevance for patients. In parallel to research work, I lead an Immunopsychiatry clinic in Brighton, UK, an innoovative  NHS-based clinical research service  focusing on novel and exploratory immunomodulating treatment interventions for patients with mood disorders that have not responded to conventional treatments
